How To Pick Your Wedding Colors!

When planning my wedding, I knew I wanted the colors of blush & gold. I felt these two colors were both on trend, as well as timeless. For many brides, deciding on what your wedding colors should be can be a daunting task. Here are a few of my tips that should help make the choice a little bit easier.

  • Pick a dark and light combination: You want your wedding colors to be complimentary as well as contrasting. An easy way to do this is by picking a dark base color, and accenting it with your lighter color choice._mg_8230
  • Consider your season, but don’t let that limit you: I chose blush as one of my colors, which is typically a spring or summer color. But I got married in the fall. While it can be smart or convenient to select you colors based on the season you get married in, don’t let that limit your choices. I had my heart set on the blush color, oranges and burgundies just weren’t my thing. :
  • Use Pinterest as inspiration & direction: When you are picking linens, charger plates, flowers, and other items that involve your colors, it can get overwhelming. I highly recommend using Pinterest to hon your ideas. It will give you some direction, as well as specific pictures to show your vendors.
  • Make sure you have a base color: The base color of your palette needs to be a neutral. White, cream, or even black are great bases to keep your colors in check. Our wedding featured a lot of white in the background of the color scheme. This will help keep your colors from overwhelming your beautiful day. :

Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping!

Over the weekend I had my first experience trying on wedding dresses. While it was in no way like Say Yes to the Dress, I was able to say yes to a dress!

A few things I learned while shopping for my dress:

1. Size of the dress doesn’t matter: The store I went to had various sizes, from 8s to I believe 24s. I tried on various dresses in almost all these sizes. Wedding dresses are based on European sizes, so the numbers are off by a bit, in some cases a lot. Also, when you put on a dress, your consultant will be clipping you into any dress you put on. I’m talking I had 8 clips at some points!

2. Try every style once: I tried lace, roched, belted, trumpet, a-line, ball gown, and whatever else I liked. It is so hard to tell if you like a dress when it’s on a hanger. Go for a specific detail of a dress and try it. You never know!

3. Think of your venue when choosing: Realize your wedding venue plays a part in picking a dress. If you have a destination wedding, you’ll want something that won’t wrinkle. If it’s outside, pick something light and airy. If it’s a black tie affair go for sophisticated & grand.

4. You might not have a crying moment: I’ll be honest, I didn’t cry when I found “the dress.” Of course I was happy, but the whole idea of a wedding makes me really nervous. I was just glad I found a dress that fit me so well & looked classic!

5. If you don’t have bling, it can be added: I picked a dress with no bling, but I found a bling belt that I added to my dress. Just because there is no bling, doesn’t mean you can’t have it!

6. Remember your timeline: It takes months to get a dress ordered in your size. Mine won’t be ready until May. Don’t forget that if you have a wedding happening in a year or less, get your dress ASAP!

I hope this helps you with your future wedding dress shopping! Comment below with any other tips you may have!

Daring to Dream!

Doubt. We all have it at some point in our life. But what happens when we have doubt in our dreams? There are so many things that can derail a dream, but doubt is the ultimate enemy. What if I can’t succeed? What if I don’t make enough money? What if it takes too long?

These questions can bombard us into believing that the dream itself is unattainable. But that is the problem. Before we even attempt the dream, we dismiss it as too much work or effort. Not worth any sacrifice or discomfort to achieve it.

But here’s the thing. Doubt should not discourage you from attempting your dreams. People throughout history have had dreams, littered with doubtful thoughts. If they had let those thoughts take over, they would have ended in failure right from the start.

“But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” ~James 1:6~

So here is my advice to combat doubts:

*Have a plan.

*Take action.

*Have faith.

*Believe in yourself.

Most of these are self-explanatory, but particularly pay attention the last two. You must realize that sometimes you may only have yourself to fall back on if times get tough. But you must also remember that faith can bring you comfort & rest. God never leaves you, & He will help you achieve your dreams.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” ~Jeremiah 29:11~

Vintage Eyeliner & How To Create It!

I’ve always been obsessed with vintage makeup. It has a timeless, elegant look! Particularly, I find the eye makeup can be easily integrated into any look. Here are a few tips for creating a gorgeous, vintage eye look!

I did my right eye only, for comparison.

First, you will never have perfect symmetry with winged eyeliner. Trust me, I’ve tried. But you can get really close. I try to do similar strokes of my liquid pen eyeliner on both eyes. So, for instance, if I have a more upwards stroke with the wing on one eye, I’ll try to give the same stoke on the other eye. Another tip I have is if you are leery of using liquid eyeliner, outline your wing with a pencil liner first. This gives you more control, & you can go over your pencil eyeliner with the liquid eyeliner once you have the desired look. If you make a mistake that can’t be fixed with more eyeliner, have some makeup remover on hand. Use a Q-tip dipped in makeup remover to carefully remove your mistakes. Finally, don’t forget mascara! Not only does mascara give you a fuller, lifted look, but it can discreetly cover any minor mistakes. 😉
