New Year, New You: Smoothie Recipe & Yoga Video!

Happy New Year, everyone! It’s amazing how with the drop of the ball you can feel like your whole slate is wiped clean! Fresh starts are a great time to reevaluate what things can be changed in your life for the positive.

I started the first day of 2017 with a quick smoothie recipe, yoga video, and some at-home-spa treatments! So refreshing!

Smoothie Recipe:

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 grapefruit
  • Yogurt
  • Handful of spinach leaves
  • Dab of honey

Add your ingredients to a blender (I use my Ninja) until smooth. This smothie has a tropical taste thanks to the grapefruit. Just add a tropical umbrella and pretend you’re at the beach!

Here is the yoga video I did this morning as well:

It’s not too intense, but does give a little bit of strength exercises to make you feel great!

My Adventures In Cooking (& Why I’m Going To Start)!

Breakfast at Tiffanys, Audrey Hepburn

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Now that I have my own apartment, & more specifically my own kitchen, I am determined to start getting creative in the food department. I’ve been experimental in the dessert areas of baking, but I’ve always stuck to my tried & true recipes I know from growing up. Pork chops, tacos, roast, meat loaf, & pasta, to name a few. While this is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, I want to branch out & discover new foods. I also want to get more invested in my baking. I have a kitchen aid mixer that has hardly been touched, so making cookies from scratch is on the top of my list!

Now, don’t get me wrong. I know I won’t become a chef overnight. It takes practice, skill, & trial and error. I’ve had my fair share of recipes that flopped (some literally), but I’ve also had some delicious recipes that I’m proud of. Pinterest has been an amazing inspiration, but I haven’t had the determination to actually make what I’m pinning. So I’m going to go through my cooking related boards & find things to make. I guess this is a resolution. Try my hand at a few recipes & hope for the best!

Tuesday Inspiration!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Here are some photos of Marilyn Monroe that I thought were so pretty! These were taken the last year of her life. I always had a fondness for this era in her life. Her style was drifting from the glamour of the forties & fifties, to a more modern sixties take. The outfits she started to wear around this time always remind me of my Great Nan. I think she looks lovely, & I wish we could have seen Marilyn throughout the other decades. She would have been a show stopper!

Waiting for Your Season!

There have been many times in my life where I have felt like I fall behind my friends or family in terms of achievements or big life events. It can be hard to see the beauty & blessings in life when everyone you know is getting married, graduating, or having a child, among other things. You begin to feel like a failure. “Why have I not made it to  insert chosen milestone?” “Where is my Mr. Right?” “Will I ever have a perfect, high paying job?”

It can be so easy to get discouraged, discontent, & frankly disappointed. I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t imagine living my 23rd year on this earth not married. I’ve been with my boyfriend for seven years, & marriage is in our future. But it isn’t our season yet.

We live in a culture & world that has a “Me, me, me” mentality, along with an “I want it now” philosophy. When we keep our mental & spiritual states in the fast-forward, & focus on where we think we should be, we miss out on the beauty of now.

Yes, I’m not married yet. But I have an amazing boyfriend, wonderful job that I love, a family that truly cares, time for myself, freedom to do anything I wish…You get the picture.

Being content in your current circumstances doesn’t mean your giving up on your future or dreams. But it does mean your making a conscious decision to be happy with the blessings God has given you right now.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. {1 Thessalonians 5:16-18}
