New Year, New You: Smoothie Recipe & Yoga Video!

Happy New Year, everyone! It’s amazing how with the drop of the ball you can feel like your whole slate is wiped clean! Fresh starts are a great time to reevaluate what things can be changed in your life for the positive.

I started the first day of 2017 with a quick smoothie recipe, yoga video, and some at-home-spa treatments! So refreshing!

Smoothie Recipe:

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 grapefruit
  • Yogurt
  • Handful of spinach leaves
  • Dab of honey

Add your ingredients to a blender (I use my Ninja) until smooth. This smothie has a tropical taste thanks to the grapefruit. Just add a tropical umbrella and pretend you’re at the beach!

Here is the yoga video I did this morning as well:

It’s not too intense, but does give a little bit of strength exercises to make you feel great!

Awesome Arm Exercises!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

I thought I’d post a great arm workout! I did this workout last night. I started with a mile walk/jog on the treadmill. I followed with this dumbbell circuit using 2lb weights. I did thirty sets of each exercise. My arms were feelin’ the burn by the end!

Don’t forget to stretch before & after your workouts, & keep hydrated with H2O.

Healthy Thanksgiving!

Healthy Thanksgiving!
It’s that time of year again. Back-to-back holidays, both of which involve family, friends, & a feast big enough to feed a small army! With all that delicious food staring you in the face, how do you keep your healthy routine you had during the Summer months? Here are a few tips I have to help you stay on the healthy track during your Thanksgiving break!
1. Drink Water, Not Wine
I know what you are thinking. How can I not have alcohol during the holidays?? Well, here is what I do. Keep holiday drinking to a one glass limit. The rest of the meal, drink water. It will help keep you full, & you can cut any extra calories from drinks.
2. Watch Your Portions
I’m not gonna lie. I can eat me some Thanksgiving/Christmas food! But as gratifying it is in the moment, as soon as those heaping piles of food settle, I’m regretting every bite. So instead of enjoying a delicious home-made meal, I end up sad and stuffed. Instead, stick to one plate of food & watch your portions. Go for palm sized amounts of food. This will allow you to get a little taste of everything, minus the bloated feeling afterwards.
3. Keep Up With Exercise
I started working out every day, and I am reaping the benefits! But just because you have a holiday week doesn’t mean you should stop with all your workouts. Make sure to incorporate some form of exercise into your schedule. This is especially important to keep up with between the Thanksgiving and Christmas gap. Many people say, “Oh, Christmas is right around the corner. I’m not going to worry about working out.” Wrong. That is the time to kick your workout into high gear!
4. Enjoy More Than Food
Don’t forget to enjoy your family & friends during the holidays. Yes, the food is great. But remember that time with loved ones is short, and food shouldn’t be the main focus of holiday festivities.
I hope you find these tips helpful! Comment with any that should be added!

Fitness Essentials!

I think fitness is an important aspect to having a healthy and happy life. Here are my top four fitness essentials to help you with your fitness journey!

Fitness Essentials!

1. The Clothes

Having good workout clothes is necessary to make your workout more enjoyable. Having light-weight, flexible, and airy clothes allow you to workout to the best of your abilities. It is also important to think about the color of the clothes. I am more motivated to workout if the clothes are colorful and bright!

2. The Shoes

Make sure your workout shoes are supportive. I have had workout shoes that have lacked in helping me reach my fitness goals. They were uncomfortable, and not really meant for the type of activity I do. I recently bought a new pair of workout shoes and I see a big difference. I am able to workout longer, and have the needed support for my feet. Again, go for something colorful!

3. The Equipment

If you decide to join a gym, most, if not all, of the equipment you’ll need is already provided. I, however, workout from home. The main items I use are: weights, a yoga mat, and a fitness ball. These workout items allow you the ability to do various exercises that work nearly all areas you wish to change. I also use YouTube to my advantage. There are a lot of workout videos for any type of exercise you could imagine!

4. The Snacks

Whether you have a snack before or after your workout (for me it depends what time of the day I workout), you want to make sure it is filling and nutritious. I like to have something such as a smoothie, assorted nuts, or a nutrition bar. These options provide protein and energy, and of course they are delicious!

Workout At Home!

Going to a gym to workout is not my idea of fun. I just don’t find it appealing to sweat in front of strangers. To counter this problem, I like to watch workout videos on YouTube. Here are a few that I find enjoyable, and effective!

This is a great yoga video. Not too difficult, but you will definitely feel this in your arms and legs.

I found the Tone It Up girls a few years ago, and I fell in love with their personalities and workouts!

This is a great one for the abs. You will feel this one!

This is a great arm workout.

& this one will give you a nice booty!

Healthy Eating!

Next week I head out for a vacation. So this week, I plan on eating as healthy as possible. While I don’t want to lose any weight per se, I think it is always best to try and eat decently before a big vacation. This helps me stick to healthy eating once I am away from home. I’m not going to do anything drastic. Mostly just adding some fruits and veggies. A few salads here and there. I also find it helpful to not eat after six in the evening. And of course, exercise is a must! I really like to exercise. It clears my head and gives me a boost of energy. I think for this week I’ll add in my Zumba DVD. This is a fun and easy way to burn calories!
