Since I’m on a “Beatles” kick…
I’m not much for musical films, but Across The Universe is a favorite that I can watch over & over again. The film is directed by Julie Taymor, and is set against the backdrop of both music from The Beatles & the Vietnam War. The film focuses on the romance between an upper-class American girl and a poor Liverpudlian artist.
This film has amazing renditions of The Beatles’ songs, including, “Something,” “Across the Universe,” “Helter Skelter,” & “All You Need Is Love.”
This film does delve into the trippy aspects of the 60’s, which includes drug use. Fair warning that those scenes are kind of crazy & mind-bending. Overall, though, I think this film has a lot to offer. Just keep an open mind as to the era & culture back then. 😉
