Being a May baby, the Kentucky Derby has always been on my bucket list. Best known for horses & hats, I thought I’d do a little research into the history of the Kentucky Derby.
The Kentucky Derby is a horse race held yearly in Louisville, Kentucky. Celebrated on the first Saturday in May, it caps the two-week long Kentucky Derby Festival. It is known in the United States as, “The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports,” “The Fastest Two Minutes In Sports,” & “The Run for the Roses.”
The 2015 Kentucky Derby will be held on May 2, and is the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby.
*Mint Julep ~ This is a traditional iced drink consisting of bourbon, mint, and a sugar syrup.
*Burgoo ~ This is a traditional thick stew consisting of beef, chicken, pork, and vegetables.
*Infield ~ A spectator area inside the track, general admission with little chance of seeing the race.
*”Millionaire’s Row” ~ The expensive box seats that attract the rich & famous.
I plan on going to the Kentucky Derby within the next few years. I’ll have a mint julep in the infield, while I parade my glamorous hat around. It will be splendid!
